Last Saturday I made Indonesian style beef roulade
We bought fried chicken on Sunday
On Monday I cooked oven baked chicken legs
Since I did not have time to cook on Tuesday , we ordered Chinese food for lunch, kids ate at IKEA for dinner, Eddy baked some fish for the adults in the evening.
Today I am tired of meat...
So I cooked ....

The Gallery

My three kids bring home lots of crafts from school.
Where could I display their art without making
my home look like their classroom ?
LAUNDRY ROOM is the answer

THINGS THAT THEY LIKE

The Chandra kiddos have the things that they like
The things change just like they change
The boys change their DS to Ipods. They to download new games on their ipods.
The girl love horses more than Hello Kitty. She imitates horse neighing all the time.
They all love " My Little Ponies " TV series.. Mom wonders why.
Even their little friends are amazed of their new fondness of MLP.

Daniel likes to drink water now. He always brings his water bottle to school.
Maybe he realizes that not enough water can cause bad breath,
which Mom once told him.
He also hearts homemade popsicle.
He plays the board game with his dad ( thanks Eddy, Mom really appreciates it )
He still like to read and make origami occasionally ,
like on Valentine day or when he wants to show off which is not very often.

Tim starts to like reading comic books although
he often forgets to fill the reading contract from school
which requires him to read about 20 minutes every day
Ironically, Mom thinks reading is overrated.
( Imagine that coming from someone who loves books, bookstores, and public libraries )

Sophie still likes to do ballet.
She is really crazy about animals though.
Mommy doesn't mind if she is gonna be a vet someday
or taking course in animal husbandry.
( like Temple Grandin , Mom loves that movie about her.
Claire Danes did an awesome acting there)

Next time, Mom will put things that she likes on a post.
And since her faves are more permanent than her kiddos,
there won't be renewed yearly.

A Dolphin Named Justin

We went to Taman Safari in Cisarua.
My kids loved the dolphin show
The pool used artificial seawater .
After the show , they got a chance to feed and shake hands
with Justin, the working dolphin.

The Boy and His Rendang

Rendang was voted the winner of CNN World's 50 Most Delicious Food
http://www.cnngo.com/explorations/eat/readers-choice-worlds-50-most-delicious-foods-012321?page=0,2
Daniel loves rendang. He likes it with a warm bowl of white rice.
He was excited to hear that rendang would be served in Easter lunch at our church.
My husband and I were super busy at the Easter service because we both volunteered .
So we did not really pay attention to what he ate.

At home, after the service, Daniel was kinda sad.

" I did not eat rendang, " he said

I remembered that the kids were served first, while their parents were listening to the Easter sermon.
They had fried chicken, fried noodle and rice.
Rendang , egg balado, and sayur daun singkong ( stewed kale in coconut milk )
were not included in the kids' plates since they were spicy .

" Why you didn't ask..? " I asked

He just shrugged his shoulder as usual... not a man of many words to me...
although I know he's quite chatty with his friends.

" I promise I'll make you some, " I said

On Monday, the kids and I went grocery shopping.
We bought ingredients for rendang. I am not very good at making rendang,
so I just use instant rendang paste ..( thank you Bumbu Munik ), a can of coconut milk,
a lot of potatoes ( since my husband and I try to eat less meat ).

This is the result...( not as yummy as my friend's though.. )

Lego Yoda Alarm Clock

During school days,  I wake up the boys around 7.30.
Usually I holler , " Wake up..wake up ! "
If they don't wake up ( which happens lots of times ), I turn up the volume ( of my voice ).
Still not waking up, I will take off their blanket,
put my cold hand on their neck or
( my last effort will be ) wet towel on their face.

But on the weekends.. they will wake up early...
They turn on the TV, computer , and DS ( they  multitask sometime )
They raid the pantry for sweets and snacks
They let my husband and I sleep though
Clever !

One night Timothy said to me
" Mama, could you said good morning instead of  wake up wake up ?"
I was a little surprised to hear that.
" Ok I'll try , Tim "

About two weeks after Tim's request,
I found this cute alarm clock at Homegoods.
I bought it .
Let the Lego Yoda wake them up in the morning...

It Took Several People...

Daniel just made a quick decision to learn guitar tomorrow.
He agreed to learn it for one year and practice every day without me nagging about it.
It took several people ( in the past and recent time ) to support his decision.

The guitar was given about 3 years ago by our dear friends who are like aunt and uncle for us
( Thanks to Tante Daisy and Oom Djono )
My Uncle, Hendra Padmasana, who lives in Seattle, went with me to guitar store to buy the string when he visited me two years ago . He also tuned it. ( Thanks Oom Da )
My friend and neighbor, Elsa, gave me all the information about music school near my home. She enrolled her son Alex ( one of Daniel's close friends ) first. I just piggybacked to what she did . By one phone call it was done. She will also carpools with me for this guitar lesson. ( Thanks Elsa ).
Since it was a very quick decision, I found out that the guitar was out of tune and lack one string. Our church pastor was able to come to our house at a short notice. He took care of that problem. ( Thanks Pastor Joe ).
Also Daddy who pays the bill and Mommy who arranges it.

WII and Tea Party

"Mom, Sophie got my controller, "

Dani asked for my help because Sophie decided to join him, Timothy and Owen ( Dani's classmate ) in the middle of their WII game ( playing Kirby ).

Sophie was screaming when I took the controller out of her hands. Tantrum...tantrum...
I whisper something in her ear....

" What about tea party ? "

She nodded...

Tea party time...
" Where is the sugar mama, cause sugar is my fa....vorite , " said Sophie

YOU DON'T ALWAYS HAVE TO FOLLOW YOU BROTHER'S FOOTSTEP

Dani started piano when he was 4 yrs old...
Last year , after reading Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother ( by Amy Chua )
I ask him to practice more
On the spring recital 2011 , he did better than the other two recitals before..
( better = meaning I could listen without hoping it end right then )
then, on summer, I started to fight with him about the piano practice
He asked to stop the piano lesson...
On fall, I cannot take it anymore...
he got what he asked.

Timothy started piano at 6 yrs old when he could read letters and count numbers
By the encouragement of the Tiger Mom book, I ask him to practice seriously
He did well on his first spring recital
After Daniel stopped playing piano, Tim practices less
During winter, due to pneumonia, christmas activities, and such..
his performance on winter recital was not good...

Only my husband came to his recital.
I was too tired from going to the doctor office 2 times in a day .
First appointment was Daniel and Sophie's annual check up in their pediatrician .
Second was Timothy's ( in a specialist ) to check a lymph node infection that happened right after the pneumonia...
Thank God ..it was healed quickly after the second round of antibiotic

Timothy said to me : I will stop piano lesson at 4the grade.. just like Dani

I said : You don't always have to follow Dani's footstep
Maybe you will enjoy piano more than him
            Now PRACTICE !

But I will let him decide when he's in 4th grade

INTRODUCTION TO BALLET

Sophie always likes Angelina Ballerina. In the gym that I usually go, there is a ballet class. for 3-5 years old.
After her 3rd birthday, I enrolled her.

Usually when I heard ballet, what I had in mind is " strict, serious, disciplined "..
Hair should be like this, hand should be like that.. the more symetrical the shape , the better..
Only several choice of colors for the outfit.. etc, etc...
A 3 years old girl could grow to hate it if there are bounty of rigid rules.

But this class is fun...
Any kind of comfortable clothes..
( But who can't resit the chance to dress her little one in leotard ? )
Fun music
( not classical .. but Disney's princess songs, soft music,
yesterday I heard " How much is that doggie in the window " )
Not all the ballet phrases like 1st position, 2nd position, plie, etc..
but also the one that made more sense for little kids
( such as...jumping like bunnies, arms like crocodile mouth, hands ..sun up, sun down, etc )

And ..STICKERS...after the practice done....
